Orrett Music Academy Group Policies

Effective August 25th, 2026 – Subject to Change

Welcome to Orrett Music Academy! We work hard to ensure your family’s experience exceeds expectations. Please contact our team anytime, we are here to help.

1) BILLING & PAYMENT

  • Tuition is billed monthly and processed automatically on the 1st of each month.
  • The first month is prorated from the date of the first registered class.
  • Tuition reflects the number of scheduled classes in that month, excluding listed holidays.
  • Music lessons are HST exempt.
  • Accepted payment methods: Credit Card or Pre-Authorized Bank Transfer.
  • A $25 fee applies to declined monthly payments. Please ensure your payment information remains current in Opus1.

2) WITHDRAWAL

Group music lessons are a wonderful and important part of your musical development or that of your child. Patience and parental involvement are both critical components of ensured success of young students. If you are considering withdrawing, we encourage you to first speak with your teacher and/or administration. Often a small adjustment helps restore enthusiasm and engagement. Also, withdrawing from a group class affects other members of the class.

To withdraw:
  • Written notice must be received by email at hello@orrett.ca by the 15th of the month to stop classes for the following month.
  • If notice is received after the 15th, the following month’s tuition will be processed and lessons as is would continue until that time.

3) ATTENDANCE

Group classes are structured experiences that rely on the presence and participation of all enrolled students.

  • Missed group classes cannot be rescheduled, refunded, or credited.
  • Tuition reserves a student’s spot within the group and covers the full program experience.

Because group classes involve coordinated curriculum and peer interaction, individual make-up lessons are not available.

    4) SUPPLY TEACHERS

Orrett teachers are expected to be present at least 90% of the time, except under illness, emergency, or other unavoidable circumstances.

When necessary, Orrett may provide an Authorized Supply Teacher. ASTs are carefully selected and approved by the Director. They are often regular Orrett faculty members covering for colleagues and are fully aligned with our teaching standards and expectations.

When an Authorized Supply Teacher is present, the class runs as scheduled.

    5) ACADEMY CANCELLATIONS

In the rare case that neither the regular teacher nor any authorized supply teachers are available and Orrett Music Academy must cancel a group class:

    • A monetary credit will be applied to the student’s account.
    • Credits may be applied toward the next month’s tuition or any future tuition or academy service.
    • Financial refunds are not provided.

    6) HOLIDAYS & INCLEMENT WEATHER

Classes do not run on the following holidays; tuition is automatically adjusted:

    • Labour Day
    • Thanksgiving Monday
    • Winter Break (two weeks)
    • Family Day

    • Good Friday
    • Victoria Day
    • Canada Day
    • Civic Holiday

All holiday closures and academy scheduling can be viewed anytime under “Our Calendar” on our website.

In cases of severe weather (as determined by Orrett), classes may be cancelled. Unlike with private lessons, with group classes, a monetary credit will be applied to the student’s account. Refunds are not provided.

    8) CONDUCT, SAFETY & LIABILITY

ORRETT DOES NOT ASSUME TRANSFER OF CARE. THE WELFARE AND SAFETY OF THE STUDENT REMAINS WITH THE ADULT STUDENT OR PARENT / GUARDIAN OF A MINOR.

Students under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver unless written consent is given.

Orrett cannot assume responsibility for lost, damaged, or unattended personal property.

In rare circumstances, Orrett may end enrolment of a student or family to protect the safety and well-being of our academy community. This may include situations involving disruptive behaviour, inappropriate conduct, repeated late payments, or communication inconsistent with a respectful learning environment. Remaining prepaid tuition (if applicable) will be refunded.

We are committed to maintaining a warm, respectful, and encouraging musical environment for every student and family.

    9) COMMUNICATION

Students and parents may communicate directly with their teacher briefly at the end of each class, and digitally between classes directly through Opus1.

Unless invited for special occasions, parents do not sit in on group classes.

By enrolling, students and families consent to academy-related email communication.

    10) PHOTO & VIDEO CONSENT (OPTIONAL)

Photo and video consent is managed through an optional toggle in Opus1.

If enabled, Orrett Music Academy may use photos or videos of students for academy-related purposes, including website, social media, and in-school displays. Students are never identified by full name.

If disabled, a student’s image will not be intentionally used in academy materials, including promotional features and contests**.

**Please note that during larger academy events or recitals, wide-angle group photographs may be taken. While we make every reasonable effort to honour photo preferences, we cannot guarantee that a student will not appear incidentally in background or crowd images.

    11) MARKETING EMAIL CONSENT (OPTIONAL)

Orrett students receive a discount at our music store as long as they are enrolled. Toggle “agreed” if you consent to receiving periodic marketing emails related to musical instruments and accessories from our store for music students (highly recommended!). You may withdraw this consent at any time.
